I began pursuing photography 3 years ago, when I acquired my first
digital camera, only to discover that modern auto-focus lenses, though able to take nice sharp pictures, create little magic for me. I began experimenting with old lenses from the film days, and have found several magic-producing pieces of glass that now are always with me in my camera bag. Any subject is fair game, but most of the time I find myself drawn into the hidden natural world, peering with my glass eyes at scenes of beauty and drama usually overlooked. The most obscure plant, when observed in the right light, at the right angle, and with eyes wide open, might be revealed to have a dramatic flair never noticed before, and to explode in a sea of color as beautiful as any painting. This is the satisfaction I am finding in my photography, and every outing comes with fresh images to delight….whether it is the bud of the rose or the autumn hips, whether it is a decaying grass seed-head or a swallow tail caterpillar grazing on aging lupine. The beauty is endless, and just a click away. |
