Mica Anton

I’m an artist and community organizer living on Kalapuya land in so-called Eugene. Art has always been one of the ways I’ve formed a relationship to land. My work centers the plants and animals of places that are important to me—from the conifers of the Pacific Northwest to the olive trees of the SWANA region where I have roots. My interest in place is informed by my backgrounds in both art and science; I studied environmental geography and art, focusing on environmental politics and justice. I’ve since taken these experiences outside of academia, organizing around land defense and against imperialism.

Being a part of movements, I’ve seen screen printing, banner painting, and other art making build energy and community in struggle. For most of my life, painting was my primary medium, but in the last few years I’ve incorporated digital methods and printmaking to more easily share my art. Using these tools, I hope to make art that helps kindle fights for liberation.
