I have been in love with everything about glass for a lifetime. In college I went out with a guy that turned me on to stained glass. I would go to the glass store and buy scrap pieces of glass because an entire sheet was too expensive for a starving student. I was able to continue with stained glass after college when there was more cash for my craft. I made many pieces including four Tiffany lamp shades. My relationship with the guy did not last, but my love for glass endured to this day.
I enjoyed taking adult ed classes so when a class in glass fusing was offered, I enrolled. It took one class, and I was hooked. I enjoyed the freedom of not having to connect the lines. It did not take long before I decided it was time to buy my own kiln so I could have more control of the firing process. There is always something new to learn with glass which leads me down different avenues. I played with making glass mosaics for a while. Now I am enjoying using powdered glass so I can create colors that are unique to my piece. I also enjoy making large installations using my fish or leaves. Since the pieces are not confined to a frame the size of the installation is limitless. The invitation to join the New Zone Gallery came at a good time as there is art leaning up against the walls and behind furniture in our house. Now I can create and hope that my work will find a home that will enjoy it. |
