About The Artist |
Coming from a family of varied artistic abilities it felt natural to discover my creative skills. I have always enjoyed “doodling” since I was a child. My serious drawing started when my children were young in California. I created all the graphics for the city swimming pool program which are still used today. That got my juices flowing and I have never quit drawing since.
Retirement and moving back to Oregon with my husband a number of years ago left me with more time on my hands so I decided to pick up acrylic painting again after a 40 year break. As a self-taught painter I love experimenting with color. Many of my paintings are “whimsical” pieces that include cats, dogs, chickens and wild birds. Recently my twin sister and I were introduced to glass fusing by a 90-something year old friend. It really appeals to me again because of the use of bright primary colors. I compare working with glass like working a jigsaw puzzle; you just keep adding pieces of glass until you get the whole picture. Glass work, painting, drawing and my lifelong enjoyment of sewing and gardening have given me a full- time job in my retirement years. Creativity is my form of meditation. After hearing about New Zone Gallery from a fellow glass fuser, I joined giving me a place to display my work. As well serving on the board of directors I volunteer in many capacities for the gallery. I also am a member of Emerald Art Center. When I am not doing any of the above I can be found walking my best friend Oliver (our Springer Spaniel) or volunteering at our local hospital. Life really IS good. |
